I was invited to partake of their artistic flare for food recently, and I have to say that it was definitely a 5-star experience. From the moment we pulled into the parking lot until the meal was complete, every aspect of our dinner was filled with joy and flavor. I started my meal with a Tortuga Flats Painkiller. One of their signature cocktails made with Myers Dark Rum, fresh pineapple juice, cream of coconut and fresh orange juice served on the rocks. This was a perfect drink after a long day in the Texas heat. For my appetizer, I went with the Sopes De Tinga. A delightful dish made with crispy mesa cakes served with a mix of fresh black beans, savory chicken tinga, delicious cotija cheese, sweet red onions and fresh cilantro. What a combination of flavor. My taste buds were jumping with joy.
For the main dish, it was suggested by the chef that I try Jaimito’s Chili Enchiladas. Thank you for the suggestion. Made with Jaimito’s famous beef chili, crispy tortilla strips, fresh grilled onions and fresh Mexican crema. It was unlike any other enchilada I had ever had. The way the flavors co-mingled to create this perfect masterpiece was nothing short of impressive. I gobbled up every last bite and even found myself scraping up the left over chili that had poured onto the plate. My family was watching me as though I was some starved wild animal enjoying his first meal in weeks. And I must say that at that moment I felt as though that description was fitting. I couldn’t help myself. I can’t wait to enjoy Tortuga Flats again.
